TAKS and Reading: How do they go together?

During my conference period, I took to some ‘teacher blogs’ to do a little reading, something that I almost never do while at school. One of my favorites, thereadingzone, posted a link to a new favorite blog, The Book Whisperer. Donalyn Miller, a 6th grade language arts teacher, wrote this all-to-real account of state-mandated standardized testing in the classroom, and the role that reading actually plays in it all. I love what she wrote. Does reading relax you? Do you see it relaxing your students on test day?
